Class Of 2020: Award Winners

On Tuesday night, STA premiered its Graduation video to honour and celebrate our graduates and their achievements. Here is a full list of all the awards handed out to our graduates, and the recipients. Congratulations to the award winners and all the graduates! 

Governor General’s Bronze Academic Medal

This is the top and most prestigious award given to a high school student. The award recognizes academic excellence and is awarded to a student with the highest academic standing in all Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses. 

Recipient: Louis Park

Raider’s Academic Medal

The Raider’s Academic Medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest average in his/her graduating year. 

Recipient: Rebecca Preyra

Lieut. Governor’s Community Volunteer Award 

The Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award pays tribute to a student who not only completes the required number of volunteer hours to graduate, but who goes above and beyond these hours.

STA Award of Excellence

This award honours a student who has demonstrated academic achievement and contribution to school life.

Principal’s Award

The Principal’s Award is presented to a student who has shown both academic excellence and student leadership.

St. Thomas Aquinas Faculty Award

This award is given to two students, who, in the opinion of the staff, are exemplary in their pursuit of knowledge. 

Recipients: Mira Haddad, Nathan Young

The Joe Luciani Memorial Award

This award is presented in loving memory of Joe Luciani (1949-2017) – Principal, Vice Principal, Mentor, Counsellor, Spiritual Advisor, Teacher and Coach. This award is given to a graduating student who best exemplifies the principles and qualities held and inspired by Coach Luciani as a student, an athlete, a family member and citizen.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Award Of Merit

This award is presented to a student who has shown significant academic and personal growth in his/her high school years.

Knights of Columbus Valedictorian Award

This award is presented to the valedictorian of the graduating class.

Recipient: Youssef Gendy 

Knights of Columbus Leadership Award 

The Knights of Columbus Leadership Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated commitment to the school community through his/her actions in a voluntary capacity. 

Recipient: Malika Bhambra

CAW – Local 707 Walter & May Reuther Memorial Social Justice Award

This award is given to a student who has good academic standing and intends to pursue post-secondary education in Social Sciences or Business.

Diocese Of Hamilton Award

The Diocese Of Hamilton Award recognizes a graduate who has attained high academic proficiency and exemplified Catholic leadership qualities, Christian values and a commitment to service. 

Recipient: Julieta Yael Jauregui Rodriguez

Catholic Women’s League (St. Dominic Council) Christian Living Award 

The St. Dominic Parish Catholic Women’s League Christian Living Award iş donated by the Catholic Women’s League of St. Dominic Parish. It is awarded to a student who has shown a high level of academic achievement and has exhibited Christian example in the life of the school community.

Catholic Women’s League (St. Andrew Council) Christian Living Award

The St. Andrew Parish Catholic Women’s League Award is donated by the Catholic Women’s League of St. Andrew Parish. It is awarded to a student who has shown a strong commitment to her Catholic faith and values and demonstrated strong academic achievement.

Procor Limited Award

This award is presented to a worthy student who will pursue post-secondary education in the area of technical studies.

Pegasus School Services Award

This award is given to a student who demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, is well in his/her interests and skills, is a positive role model for other students, and shows an aptitude for photography.

The ISW Uniforms Award Scholarship Award

This award is presented to a student who has shown great achievement in the areas of academics, leadership, and co-instructional activities.

University Of Toronto Book Award

This award is given by the University of Toronto to a student who demonstrates superior academic performance and original creative thought.

Corinne Donati Memorial Award 

This award is presented in memory of Corrine Donati, a dedicated St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School business teacher, to a student who exemplifies a dedication to the study of business and theatre in their senior years. In addition, the student has shown a commitment to extracurricular activities in the area of theatre and/or business. The student continues to show concern for the welfare of their fellow students, humour, and a passion for life and all its challenges.

The Compass Group Spirit Award

This award recognizes a student’s contribution to the spirit of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, and it is given to a student who has shown consistent dedication and excellence to his/her studies.

The Giacomo A. Corbacio Bursary Award

This award recognizes one graduating secondary student who will be attending a postsecondary institution in Canada in one of the following fields of study: Engineering, Applied Science, Urban Planning, or a Skilled Trade.

International Student Award

This award is presented to a student who has achieved a strong academic average, has demonstrated extracurricular involvement in school life, and is an example of the Catholic Graduate expectations.

CFU Women University Entrance Award

This award is presented to a female student who has demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding leadership who will be attending a post-secondary program at University.

The Maycourt Club Of Oakville Educational Scholarship Award

This award is presented to students proceeding on to a post-secondary education who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their school and/or community and their studies.

IODE Bursary – Angela Bruce Chapter

This award is awarded to a student who has demonstrated a strong community commitment and is pursuing post secondary education.

The Optimist Club Of Oakville – Don Macdonald Optimist Scholarship Award

This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and who has contributed significantly to the school community during his/her career at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School.
